The Wyandot County Courthouse stands in downtown Upper Sandusky, Ohio, at the intersection of Sandusky Avenue and Wyandot Avenue. This real courthouse supplied the courtroom used for Andy Dufresne's trial and conviction in the opening section of The Shawshank Redemption. Its role is brief but crucial: the sentence delivered here sends Andy into the prison system and begins the story's long passage through confinement. The location is separate from the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield. As a working courthouse, it also has a life beyond cinema, and access to the filming room depends on court activity.
Usually a private address. Look from the street only unless a tour or owner says otherwise.

1994
Scene: Andy Dufresne is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover and receives two consecutive life sentences.
