Pugh Cabin is a log home in the wooded grounds of Malabar Farm State Park near Lucas, Ohio. Built in 1940 by Jim Pugh, a friend and neighbor of writer Louis Bromfield, it has large sandstone fireplaces and a secluded setting within the Doris Duke Woods. The Shawshank Redemption uses the cabin area for its opening sequence, placing Andy Dufresne outside in his car while he drinks and handles a revolver. This location establishes the circumstances surrounding his wife's affair before the courtroom scenes begin. It is a distinct filming site within the larger state park.
Generally a public or visitor-facing place. Check opening hours, tickets, and filming-tour rules before you go.
